This is a must see documentary that a local historical society in Belfast, Maine, made about a flag quilt that returned home very unexpectedly after 147 years! It is almost an hour long and FASCINATING! Click here to see the video.
Given that so few quilts survived the civil War, it is all the more amazing that this quilt was returned to the town in which it was made. The quilt is full of signatures, sayings and puns. Well worth curling up with a good cup of coffee or tea to watch or listen, in spite of its length. AQSG member Pam Weeks gives almost half of the lecture while Megan Pinette, President, Belfast Historical Society, presents the 2nd half. There is one exciting break through in research after another! Enjoy!

ReplyDeleteThank you for posting this video. How timely since I just received my copy of Pam Weeks new book with all of the potholder quilts featured. What a great story of a returned lost quilt. It is a heartwarming story.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and leaving a comment, Susie. I just received my copy of Pam's book this week also. It has been so exciting to see so much quilt research get published these past 10 years. Thank goodness for AQSG and the papers that are published each year too!
ReplyDeleteWonderful show, full of valuable information. I loved it and seeing the quilt gave me goosebumps to think of its age and what it was made for. Thank goodness we have some of these priceless quilts still available for study and viewing.
